In this month’s instalment of Alexandra’s Journey to the Aisle, Alexandra talks to us about how following the proposal, she approached the foray into wedding planning. Living in Dubai with friends and family around the globe was a huge factor in Alexandra and Yousef’s initial decision when it came to the planning – where to be married?!
Since Yousef proposed to me on 15th March this year it has been a whirlwind. I was so excited… what do I do first?? Obviously the first thing to do was to decide a wedding date and venue together. Once Yousef and I got back to Dubai, after a few flights for work, we had a couple of days off. So we set aside some time to talk about it. We both decided that we wanted to tie the knot in 2018.
As we have family and friends in different parts of the world, we decided that a central location for everyone to travel to would be perfect. I had always wanted to marry in the sun – which would come as no surprise to those who know me! After much discussion, and unable to reach a decision between us, I skyped my parents. We both wanted as many friends and family there that would be able to make the day. It was my mom who suddenly asked “what about Cyprus, the island of love?“
Wow!!! What a beautiful sentiment. So straight away I was on the internet and found a hotel in Paphos on TripAdvisor, that had the most fantastic reviews. Yousef had a look and we were both really impressed by what was said and also the beautiful photos. We decided that we would love to marry there.
This was now April and we had been engaged for a couple of weeks. As we had a few days leave in the middle of May we decided to book the hotel, so that we could see it for ourselves. I emailed the hotel to book and at the same time made an appointment with their wedding planner Liza. As you can imagine I was a tad excited to say the least!
In the middle week of May we flew from Dubai to Larnaca and then travelled by taxi to the hotel in Paphos that morning. When we arrived and walked into the hotel reception, it took our breath away. It is Byzantine in design and was beautiful. The weather was warm and the welcome by the hotel staff was fabulous.
The meeting with the wedding planner went well. Liza was so professional asking Yousef and I how we met, and what we both wanted for the day. She then took us on a tour showing us all the venues for the ceremony and reception. We gave her a provisional date there and then and she pencilled the date in the diary. So, that was the first step completed for the big day!!
After 3 days in Paphos, we flew back to Dubai, and that was when I decided that I would have to be organised to get everything done in time, the wedding date was finally made for 15th June 2018 – Exactly 12 months to go!!!!!
During April when I was organising this, I had also swopped onto a Birmingham flight so that I could see my parents. When I told my mom and she said how do you fancy going wedding dress shopping with me just to have a look? I thought this was a lovely idea, so we both did some research for bridal shops in the area.
As I live abroad it is difficult for me to arrange appointments. After lots of searching my mom messaged me and said I have found three bridal shops in and around the area that look really good, and have a huge selection of the type of dress you are looking for. You decide which one you would like to go to, and I will book the appointment.
So, I had a look and said Lisa Rose Bridal was the one that appealed to me, so the appointment was booked for 6th May 2017 … but that’s another story.
It certainly is 😉 Alexandra will be back with that next month, so be sure to pop back – you don’t want to miss it!
