This month, as Alexandra and Yousef’s wedding draws nearer – just 3 months to go! Alexandra is back, to talk us through honeymoon ideas, places they’ve considered and the influences on their decision on where and when to honeymoon.
Wow, this is a rollercoaster of a ride getting ready for the big day! Time is flying by so quickly.
In my last blog post I talked about the preparations for the wedding venue decor, song choices etc and they are coming together now with just a few things to confirm when we have numbers regarding guests.
Whenever I meet someone and the subject comes up that I am getting married, everyone always asks…. where are you going on honeymoon?
Well, I must admit that this has been, and still is a very difficult decision. As you are all aware Yousef and I both travel for a living. We are both Business class cabin crew for who believe is the best airline – Emirates, and as such have to live in Dubai.
With our job we travel all over the world, flights can be 2 hours or 16 hours, and although it is hard work sometimes not knowing what day of the week it is (due to crossing over so many time zones!) I wouldn’t change it as there are so many places to see.
So getting back to the subject of where to honeymoon, it is quite a difficult choice!
About 2 years ago Yousef and I took a short 4 day trip to the Maldives to celebrate a birthday. It was one the most beautiful places I have ever seen… fine white sand, blue sea and skies, gorgeous weather and a real paradise.
So after staying in the Maldives, Yousef and I said to ourselves…”what could top this?” and Yousef suggested Bora Bora.
After we got engaged I started to do some research about Bora Bora. I spent hours searching the internet and I eventually found some beautiful resorts in Bora Bora. But sadly, after discussing it together we decided that it wasn’t really feasible as it is 24 hours travel time from where we live in Dubai.
Yousef and I chatted on a number of occasions then about where to go and when. So we eventually came to the decision that as we will be having a holiday in Cyprus where we are getting married that we would go on honeymoon in the early part of 2019.
So no Bora Bora on this occasion, but I hope we will see it together one day in the future.
We continued to discuss where we would like to go, and because we are going in the early part of the year, it means that we could go back to the Maldives and I know we would have a wonderful time there.
Another option we are considering is to go to Africa on a safari. One of my dear friends did this a few years ago and recommends it, she actually went to South Africa and had a wonderful time. This would be an active and memorable honeymoon which would be very different, what an experience to see wildlife in its own environment.
So at the moment we have not made a final decision, it is a choice between going back to the Maldives which is pure paradise and would be a lazy, chill out honeymoon – and only 3 hours flight time away from Dubai. Or a honeymoon with a twist, and a totally different experience for us both. Something that we may never have the opportunity to do again… Watch this space!
To be fair, both of those options sound absolutely dreamy, what a fabulous choice to be faced with!! I don’t know about you readers, but I am turning green with envy at the thought of either of these 🙂 I’m sure whatever you decide on, your honeymoon will be out of this world. A time for you both to treasure for many years to come.
