We hope you enjoyed the first of our ‘Interview with‘ posts last month. We were so pleased with the feedback we received about how nice it is to see the wedding dresses on real brides. Without further ado (or should I say I do!) here is our next real bride. Grab a cuppa and enjoy!
Evette & David Smith (nee Lisle)
Married Friday 27th November 2015
Why did you choose your gown? Was it everything you dreamed of and more or was it an unexpected choice? What accessories did you choose? Who was your bridal consultant?
I had an idea of what I wanted in a dress and what I thought I didn’t want, but was open minded as I had never put on a wedding dress before. Kyla was so helpful from the minute we set foot in the shop and the first time was a little stressful. My 5 month old daughter at the time decided to be feeling very poorly and wasn’t happy at all. Kyla found different styles and materials so we could see what suited me, and the styles I wanted were not at all what I liked on, and the design I thought I liked the least was my favourite.
I tried on a ball gown princess dress that I really loved, but didn’t feel it would suit the small ceremony we had planned. I then reluctantly tried on a fishtail style dress that I had really felt was the style I would like the least but I loved it! I was shocked but it was the perfect style for me and for a few minutes thought this could possibly be ‘the one’. However, something still wasn’t right. Then Kyla pulled Champagne by Blue by Enzoani and immediately I was grinning from ear to ear!! It was the seventh dress I tried on and I was so in love I never wanted to take it off 🙂
I didn’t want a veil. I did try some on during the first visit but still wasn’t happy. However, at my fitting I tried a different veil – Vienna by Joyce Jackson and it was amazing I felt so beautiful and it finished off my dress beautifully, just sat long enough to really compliment my dress and really made me felt like a bride.
Where did you buy your bridesmaids dresses from and what colour were they?
I had one maid of honour – my sister Hayley, as I had a small ceremony. She got her dress from Brides of Solihull and was a lilac lace dress that really complimented my dress. We had looked for a while to find a dress that we really loved. The solid lilac ones just didn’t look right and when we found the lace one she wore, we knew it was the right fit.
I also had my daughter Esmeé who was 13 months old at the time, who had an ivory dress from Monsoon. This was so much harder than even finding my dress! She was only going to have been walking a few months by the time the wedding came around. I originally wanted a tutu dress but was worried she wouldn’t be able to walk, so we searched high and low and much to her dismay tried on quite a few. We did eventually find the one that she wore online and was so happy it was perfect for her.
>My son George and our friends children Patrick and Dominic were all page boys, and had suits from Next. Again this was a little difficult as they were all different sizes. We didn’t want jackets and really wanted some braces. We actually brought a darker, more formal suit, but ended up taking it back and getting the less formal but much more comfortable suits. The kids were very happy and all looked so handsome.
What did your groom wear and who supplied his and his groomsmens outfits?
David and his best man wore a suit from Slaters in Birmingham. My husband had very particular desires for his suit and had tried a number of different places. Someone then recommended Slaters to him as they have such a wide range of styles. We went shopping with my mum and dad and ended up finding the perfect suit and he only tried that one on the day so it was meant to be. My dad and the best man all wore the exact same suits.
Who supplied your flowers?
The stunning flowers were supplied by Vi Stevens on the Stratford road, Shirley. I must have drove Angela the owner mad the amount of times I went on changing my mind! I had such a set idea of what I wanted, but having never planned anything like this before was so unsure. We were having a small intimate ceremony and wedding breakfast so it was only one very long table we had to accommodate.
I bought three different lots of jars, taking them back because they just weren’t right. I eventually found some brilliant jars that were perfect, from Homesense. I wanted only white flowers and knew that my bouquet was going to be white roses only. I also wanted white roses in the table arrangement, but I eventually found the perfect flower – white hydrangeas. Angela and her team turned the image I had in my head into reality, they were beyond perfect.
Who was your photographer and how did you choose them?
Our amazing photographer was Dominic Lemione. This was an area I was most worried about as this is what you’re left with after the big day. These are your memories. I didn’t want cold, forced photos with everyone standing in a line… I had an idea of what I wanted and I scoured the internet for photographers for months. I spoke to so many, but when I spoke to Dominic I had a feeling he was right for us. His work was amazing and when we met him at the forest, I knew he was right. He was so passionate, it just oozes out of him, he was even more excited than me when discussing what we wanted from our photos! He just understood my vision perfectly.
He and his assistant Becky worked so hard all day, turned up before I was even there and stayed until after 10pm. We did a photo shoot in Brueton park after the ceremony as I wanted some woodland photos. It was a little wet and cold being November, but it was so worth it… even worth my dress getting muddy 🙂
Where did you get married?
We got married at the Forest Hotel in Dorridge. They were amazing and Gill the planner was the best, made it so easy for us. I emailed her all the time asking random questions and she bent over backwards to accommodate our every desire. On the days leading up to the wedding, they did everything they could to help us set up. I had drawn up diagrams of the set ups I wanted and where I had wanted everything to go. I’d spent hours and hours working out how it would look, and Gill and her team did it exactly as I had asked.
Who were your shoes by?
My shoes were a white lace pair of vans 🙂 Everyone told me to wear heels but I went against the advice as I wanted to be myself and feel comfortable. I never wear heels, so it just wouldn’t have been me at all.
Who did your hair and make up?
My sister, Hayley Preston is a professional hair dresser and did my hair on the day. She was amazing. We did a few trials as I was nervous about what I wanted. I rarely do anything with my hair so this was a massive change for me and she did a wonderful job of making me feel a beautiful version of my normal self.
em>My make up was done by Victoria Jayne Jayes. She was recommended to me by my sister who has worked with her on weddings before. She was wonderful. Again, I was nervous as I don’t wear a lot of make up and didn’t want to look too different, but she did a lovely job and I was so happy with the results.
Who supplied your wedding cake?
Our cake was supplied by Stacey at Daizys Cakes in Cheswick Green. I had got her details through a recommendation on a Facebook group. She was very excited to make my wedding cake and I was with her for a few hours on the consultation, and continued to message her with ideas. She is an amazing baker and her attention to detail is beautiful.
Why did you choose Lisa Rose for your wedding gown?
I choose Lisa Rose Bridal as my mum had her wedding dress from there when she got married. It was always going to be my first stop and I was so happy that I found the dress on my first try and in the same shop my mum found hers. I still remember being with my mum when she found hers, and my mum was with me when I found mine.
Any top tips for future Brides shopping for their wedding gown?
