Welcome to the first of our ‘Interview with‘ posts for 2017! We really do have the best brides 😉 and Georgina was a delight to work with, we were so pleased she was happy to be featured as one of our real brides as the customised Sophia Tolli wedding dress she wore was to die for. Enjoy!
Georgina & Aaron Humphries (nee Murphy)
Married Friday 9th September 2016
Why did you choose your gown? Was it everything you dreamed of and more or was it an unexpected choice? What accessories did you choose? Who was your bridal consultant?
I remember the feeling of pure excitement walking into Lisa Rose, after a bad experience at the previous bridal shop I was eager to try on plenty more dresses as everything I had tried on previously, was a massive disappointment! I was greeted by what I would call a dress angel, also known as Kyla!!!
From the moment I walked in I felt how a bride should feel, special, important and most of all listened to. Kyla went though all my likes and dislikes, my complete no no’s and what my ultimate wedding gown would be. I remember seeing my gown, not realising that this would be the actual wedding dress I would pick, hanging up in the changing room waiting for me to try on. This was one of the last dresses I had to try on and now I can understand why Kyla left it till the end.
As soon as I walked out of the changing room and looked in the mirror I just knew it was “the one”. A beautiful lace gown, with hand beaded lace appliqués placed through the bodice and trail down the skirt, finished with a chapel length train with lace corset. The dress was just perfect, I couldn’t have wanted anything else… Kyla suggested (as I was adamant I wanted a strapless dress) to take off the one strap that was featured on the dress and to finish it with a beautiful diamante belt, veil and tiara to finish. I couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect than this beautiful Sophia Tolli dress. Never did I realise that a dress could make everything seem so perfect. My excitement was through the roof.
Where did you buy your bridesmaids dresses from and what colour were they?
My Beautiful bridesmaids – Hannah, Laura and Jade, wore the most prefect and elegant Dessy dresses in Suede Rose, Rose and Blush. Kyla and Sandra from Lisa Rose helped me and the girls choose these perfect dresses that complemented the theme of the wedding.
What did your groom wear and who supplied his and his groomsmen’s outfits?
Aaron wore a tweed suit from Moss Bros. Somewhere that we would highly recommend as they couldn’t do enough for the groom’s party, 7 suits that all needed altering and all different sizes was done quickly and efficiently. Also our son Bobby was a page boy and due to how small and dainty he is, his suit was tailor made by an amazing shop called We Make and Mend in Birmingham city centre. We gave Marilyn a piece of tweed fabric that she magically turned into a suit to match the groom’s party.
Who supplied your flowers?
My beautiful flowers were supplied by Every Occasion Floral Design and Venue Styling. I have always wanted fresh, beautiful flowers for my wedding and Nikki the owner didn’t disappoint me. I remember seeing these huge stands full of amazing fresh flowers in the barn where we got married. My bouquet was the perfect size and went perfectly with the bridesmaid dresses. Nikki also supplied a number of items for me, including the glittery dance floor for the evening that looked perfect in the stables… Thank you Nikki!!
Who was your photographer and how did you choose him/her?
Paul Goode was our photographer. After seeing his work at our friends wedding four years previously and a number of other weddings, there was no question as to who we would have at our wedding. Paul worked tirelessly all day to ensure we got the shots we wanted. Always working with natural lighting or looking for the perfect spot, so professional and such a lovely man to have working with us on our big day. Ever Thine Videography really went the extra mile for us too and captured our perfect day that we can watch and show our son when he’s older. Dawn and Carl are experienced videographers that add personal touches to create a magical day. A special thank you to both of them for putting together a slide show of Bobby’s journey through his illness and capturing all his photos in a beautiful story.
Who did your hair and make up?
I truly believe a bride should invest in an experienced hair and makeup artist. Katy Bird is an award winning makeup artist covering all aspects of makeup. Katy has an extensive background and has worked with countless brides. She made me feel amazing on my big day, with years of experience Katy knows what works and uses the best products… My makeup never moved all day and evening. Kira from Bridal Hair Specialists is a highly qualified hair specialist who liaised with me regularly prior to my wedding day to ensure she created the perfect hairstyle that suited me and my dress. She gave me confidence and peace of mind just like Katy, that any hair or makeup related stress was alleviated.
Where did you get married?
Our venue was Nuthurst Grange in Hockley Heath, a country house hotel and wedding venue. In more than 7 acres of land and in easy reach of Birmingham, it was the prefect location. Nuthurst has beautiful grounds with a country house style. There are 19 spacious and beautiful stylish bedrooms which we had exclusive to us. The Stable Barn Suite had the perfect intimate wedding setting which we have created perfect memories in and will remember forever.
Who were your shoes by?
Sapphires Sparkle supplied my shoes, I wanted unique crystal footwear and something a little different from the norm. In short I wanted trainers with added sparkle. Although my wedding dress covered my shoes and as my husband isn’t the tallest person, I didn’t think heels would be a great idea so opted for these beauties, I was the comfiest bride ever!!
Who supplied your wedding cake?
Our wedding cake was supplied by Dream Cakes in Sheldon Birmingham, a beautiful 4 tiered cake, chocolate orange, lemon, and vanilla were the flavours we chose. Perfect and so tasty… Home Made By Haylie also supplied our wedding favours, white chocolate blush coloured favours that tasted delicious.
Why did you choose Lisa Rose for your wedding gown?
I chose Lisa Rose because of the unbelievable reputation that they have. I have always seen Lisa Rose being recommended by fellow brides to new brides to be. The girls that work there really know their stuff and can work with any bride, whatever requirements they need. To have first hand experience of being a customer with Lisa Rose I am so glad I chose them, everything they did for me and my bridesmaids just can’t be faulted. Sam the seamstress worked wonders with my dress too.
Any top tips for future Brides shopping for their wedding gown?
My top tips for future brides are to be open minded, the girls at Lisa Rose know what they are doing and have so much knowledge of what gowns will suit you. My other tip would be to wear what you feel comfortable in, not what you think other people want to see you in or what they want you to wear, it’s your day and your dress.
The most special part of our big day was to have our beautiful 3 year old son with us, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour 12 months before we were due to get married, he was well enough to attend our big day, we didn’t think our wedding would go ahead with the fight he had ahead of him but it did and to look at him you wouldn’t believe that he had only been given 7 days to live in October 2015. To say me and my husband were emotional on our wedding day is a complete understatement.
Georgina, thank you sooo much for sharing your beautiful wedding with us, we’re all absolutely over the moon to see Bobby doing so well now. Such a handsome little man! We loved working with you to make your dress just perfect and you look absolutely stunning in it. We wish you and Aaron a lifetime of love and happiness as the new Mr and Mrs Humphries and please do be sure to pop in and say hello next time you’re passing!
