It seems we have blinked and the summer is over… where does the time go?! Now I am going to ignore the fact that there is an abundance of items in the shops already around a certain celebration that takes place towards the end of the year (sssh, no-one mention the ‘C’ word yet, pleeeease!) And focus on this fabulous season that we have just recently catapulted into – Autumn.
I love that we experience real seasons here on our beautiful little isle, and each and every one of them have something special to offer. However, to me Autumn is a favourite as it signals the start of ‘snuggly season’. The colours, textures and darker nights are perfect for long, country walks crunching through the golden carpet courtesy of the shedding trees. Then home to a log fires, thick socks and snuggling under a blanket with a loved one.
And what better place to plan your own Autumn wedding than from under a blanket in front of a log fire with your Mr/Mrs to be!
When I think of Autumn, the first colours that comes to mind are those gorgeous, rich, oranges and golds that we see all around us. The fallen leaves, the pumpkins and crackling fires.
But please don’t stop here when it comes to your Autumn palette. There are a whole host of beautiful colours that sit just perfectly with those traditional tones. The cool blues, greens and rich berry reds.
You may not expect it but there are so many stunning blooms around in Autumn. And please don’t be limited by ‘flowers’. For bouquets and button holes we have found some stunning inspirations in berries, feathers and foliage…
As well as bouquets and button holes, centrepieces are somewhere where you may traditionally think of flowers, however Autumn offers some incredible, and really unique options for stunning centrepieces.
Whilst on the subject of tables, there are also some really creative ideas for your place settings. If you’re handy at a little bit of DIY, these could also be incredibly effective and cheap ways to dress your table. Get out there foraging, add a bit of glitter and voila!
I love the naked cake trend that’s popular at the moment. And I think Autumn is the perfect season to go the whole hog with this style of wedding cake… A tower of beautiful sponge, cream and rich detailing, mm mmm.
The colours and textures that nature offers us in this season are simply divine. The opportunities to capture some really warm, rich and visually stunning portrait photographs are endless. The light cast from the sun being lower in the sky can result in some really magical shots. I have to say, I’m a sucker for a beautiful leafy shot!
Finally, there are an immeasurable number of ways to put a personal stamp on your wedding but some season appropriate ideas we loved were: Baskets full of beautiful blankets. DIY fallen leaf confetti for gorgeous colour and texture whilst being environmentally friendly! And last but not least… for the more crafty bride to be, a scattering of stunning fabric leaves adorning tables or carpeting the aisle.
If you’re planning an Autumn wedding we would love to hear form you, we have some gorgeous wedding gowns available in warmer tones or with sleeves, that would be perfect for a wedding in this season.
We hope you have been inspired by some of the ideas above… I’m off to dust off my sewing machine and have a go at those stunning fabric leaves!
