I am not really sure what I expected it to be like being on the other side of my job! Firstly, I don’t think I ever really imagined I would have a big wedding. Which I think some people find bizarre considering as a child I would draw endless pictures of ladies wearing wedding dresses. I never dreamt that it was me wearing them, I was always the designer. So to now be the person due to wear one of these great big white fluffy things is quite surreal!
I have been really cool for some parts and a total stress head for others. Needless to say I have been an absolute nightmare with the dress! Having now been on the ‘Other Side’ I have a new found respect for every bride who steps through my door! Its not easy!!! but I will tell you about this in another post 😉
We have some fantastic wedding planners out in Lanzarote (called Rocks and Roses) who have done a great job in guiding me through the process and taken care of a lot of things on my behalf. Things like liaising with the venues and sorting entertainers. It would have been impossible for us to do any of it without them.
It turns out marrying a wedding photographer would prove interesting (No I didn’t ditch Phil the DJ for a new fella! Long story short, he found having a young family made this the perfect time to divert to his other lifelong passion of photography, and forge a career along that path). Particularly one who suffers from OCD! He trawled through so many photography websites looking for the one to shoot our day. Needless to say we have found someone who we feel will capture our day perfectly!
Videography is something really important to both of us and from talking to brides apparently something that a lot of people compromise on and don’t have. After watching my own parents wedding video from 25 years ago and seeing me and my brother toddling around, it was an absolute must for us! A photo captures a moment perfectly but a video brings it to life.
Sam, our seamstress is the most creative person I know! She is AMAZING! I will tell you all about her imput into our day in another post because it is most definitely worthy of its own!! But she has literally despaired at me each and every time she has seen me. She has had to guide me in terms of table plans, stationary etc etc.
So to cut a long story short, I don’t think being in the industry has given me any kind of advantage in planning a wedding. It may in someways have hindered it slightly (the dress!) But it has highlighted how lucky I am to have such an amazing team at Lisa Rose. I think I would still be plodding along with no dress, no table plans, no flowers etc if hadn’t been for them!
