I am literally weeks away from walking down the aisle myself… argh, I can’t believe it! On the run up to my wedding I thought it would be nice to give you a bit of a window into my journey to the aisle. I’ll start with a bit of background, how I met my groom to be and got engaged, before moving onto my wedding choices, how we came to the decisions we did, and any helpful hints and tips I picked up along the way. Enjoy… here’s part 1!
Phil and I met through a mutual friend in 2010. He was a DJ who had been living up north but had recently moved back to the area and I was invited to a gig he was playing at Gatecrasher in Birmingham.
I have to admit, I may have been a little impressed by the DJ career(!), although at the same time a little apprehensive of it. On one hand, what a glamorous lifestyle… on the other, surely guys who spend their lives in clubs till all hours most nights don’t make the best boyfriend material?! But Phil was interesting, he drew me in and I cautiously agreed to go out on a date with him.
Our first date was Italian food and a film. Not quite Lady and the Tramp style puppy dog eyes over a bowl of spaghetti! But we did get on like a house on fire and it wasn’t long before I realised he was a lovely, charming guy who really didn’t represent what I expected a ‘typical DJ’ to be like at all.
We began spending more and more time together, both in the clubs and out, until before long, we were pretty much inseparable. It all seemed to go by in a bit of a whirl wind, then in the December of 2010 he whisked me off to New York for New Year’s Eve and my birthday. I couldn’t believe it! I was blown away by his kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity.
We had an absolutely incredible time away and I think it might have been during this break that I realised there was no way I could spend the rest of my life without this man. He was mine, we were meant to be, and I couldn’t wait to see what the following year would hold.
