The next couple of years were equally as exciting, with loads more overseas trips, both short and long haul (our trip to New York in December 2010 had definitely ignited our joint passion for travel), and the beautiful sound that is the pitter patter of tiny feet! Welcoming our first born, beautiful little girl into the world!
We got engaged at home in January 2015 and although we always thought we would like to get married abroad, we set a date with a Sutton Coldfield hotel for the following August pretty much straight away!
However… A couple of weeks after our engagement we found out we were expecting our second daughter and she was due just a month after the date we had hoped to get married so we made the decision to cancel the booking and rearrange the wedding.
The stress of wedding planning combined with the infamous pregnancy hormones resulted in an interesting few months! It seemed at times that higher forces were conspiring against us with the various obstacles we had to overcome, the most disappointing of which was finding out our church was closed for refurbishment during 2016. By the summer I was feeling pretty fed up, rather tired and very pregnant!
We took a holiday to Lanzarote and it was while we were there that we had a bit of a thunderbolt moment! Why not see if our original dream of getting married overseas was a possibility. We met with a wedding planner and after lots of toing and froing, we decided to do it… It was almost as if it was meant to be.
Lanzarote is like a second home to me, a place I have been visiting for 28 years, and Phil fell in love with it too so it was an obvious choice for us in the end… I guess sometimes you just need a little nudge from those higher forces! We are now on countdown, 6 1/2 weeks to go, and we cannot wait!
