We’re back this week with another of ‘Our Guide To…’ posts. This week we’re talking about wedding dress alterations, everything you need to know about them and how best to prepare.
First things first, when you purchase your wedding dress you should enquire about alterations, if any are included in the price of the dress and the price incurred for any that aren’t. Alterations can vary in type and complexity – from a simple button and loop to bustle your dress for the evening, through to hem adjustments, bust and waist alterations and even on to more bespoke design alterations. Therefore, it is really important to understand the cost of any required alterations before blowing your budget on the dress as it comes and being left short for making it just perfect!
We always suggest a bride books her first fitting for around eight weeks before wedding date. More bespoke alterations may take longer so it is wise to discuss your required changes as soon as the dress comes in to avoid any rush as the big day approaches.
You will need to bring along with you your bridal shoes (so we can adjust the hem to just the right hight), as well as your bridal underwear and your petticoat if wearing one. Be sure to check out our post on bridal underwear here, before choosing your pieces as it may be that you don’t need a bra at all and we can simply sew cups into your dress for a seamless finish.
No Last Minute Dieting!
We would always recommend our brides be at their goal weight by the first fitting. We know everyone wants to look their very best on their wedding day but as your wedding day gets closer, any significant weight loss may result in your dress needing additional adjustments which will of course involve further cost, as well as added pressure to complete last minute alterations for your big day.
